Section for the Development of Competencies for Academic Staff

The Section for the Development of Competencies for Academic Staff, operating within the Human Resources Office of the University of Warsaw, performs tasks related to the development of employees’ competencies necessary to achieve the goals of the University, the adaptation process of new hires, supporting the recruitment process and building a friendly and activating working environment.

With its wide range of training courses and general courses, the University is responding to an increasing demand from academic teachers to improve their competencies, both those directly related to the conduct of scientific activities and teaching, as well as social, digital, linguistic or managerial competencies.

Every new academic teacher can start their work at the University with the periodic training course “Welcome to UW – Good Communication and Cooperation at the University”, which enables them to get acquainted with the UW’s mission, strategy and work organisation.

In addition to a wide range of general training courses, we also provide comprehensive development programmes combining various forms of competence development, such as Academy of Science Communication, Young Teachers Programme, Programme for Young Female Researchers and Teachers, Training Programme for Supervisors of Doctoral Dissertations Carried out at UW Doctoral Schools, and Learning University.

In carrying out our tasks, we cooperate primarily with academic teachers and internal experts employed at the University of Warsaw and less frequently with external entities.

With the support of all UW organisational units, we report on staff development activities carried out across the university pursuant to Ordinance No. 85 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw of 18 May 2021 on the rules for improving professional qualifications of the employees of the University of Warsaw.

We also assist employees and UW organisational units in concluding agreements for the improvement of professional qualifications.
